‘ello good people! there’s been talk of all kinds of ways and woes that 2009 promises. we at alms for shanti dunno none o dat—only that obie’s nearly in da house and that afs makes an unprecedented return to the nyc stage!
über-artsy joint the gershwin hotel (gershwinhotel.com) is hosting, in their words, a “celebration of Indian culture, in an effort to bring awareness to artists from India as well as the local American Indian community.” here’s whatup: art, dance, film, music, comedy and indian food, alongside (their words again) “other events both traditional and trendsetting to satisfy your curiosities about an exotic land of mystery and beauty.” golly—we wanna be there!
actually we will. alms for shanti will be stokin’ up the rafters with their soul-searching rambunctiousness via the band’s trademark indo–rock’n'funk positive energies for your upliftment and our own well being (yo, we feel good when we play that music). alcohol will be served, but young ‘uns are allowed. if you have underagers you’d like to bring, do indeed, but it’s your lookout, mr. phatarphod.
proceeds of art sales will benefit the children’s charity Project Nanhi Kali (nanhikali.org), so it’s all good stuff, yaar.
