This weekend we are doing an exciting round-up of all our Bollyland NEWBees … Its been a while since we saw a few good movies and its been ages since we saw any good talent…And whatever we do have, we have got to put numbers on them faces!! I mean…where else lies the fun???

So heres my take on the top 10 new comers …

At number 10 are 2 newbees I dont really care for … Harman Baweja & Aamna Sharif: (check out our poll to vote for which of these 2 will be ousted from BollyLand … LOL)

Bollywood usually launches its newcomers in a romantic or an action movie. But sometimes, the producer’s vision goes above and beyond the ordinary and straight into 2050. Yes, Love Story 2050 was the classic recipe for disaster and left Harman Baweja hopeless and loveless. Lady love Priyanka walked away and left Harman to play a struggling cricketer in Victory costarring Amrita Rao and almost the entire cricket team of India. However, even that didn’t seem like a recipe for true success….. Priyanka is a friend indeed starring with Harman in Its your rashi, directed by Ashitosh Gowarikar of the Jodha Akhbar fame. Harman also stars in Its my life with Genelia Dsouza.

Aamna Shariff featured in the flopped out beyond-belief “Aaloo Chat”… And that says it all! Moving right along to number 9 then….

At Number 9, although not the most coveted spot, we have a tie! …. Its the Fashion duo: Mugdha Godse & Arjan Bajwa:

“Most models are too dumb to make it in Bollywood, they should just sit tight and pose” right??…WELL, Eat your hearts out because Mughda Godse is the new comer to sush the nay-sayers. Marking her territory in Bollywood, this fierce model stepped it up to Priyanka Chopra and gave a powerhouse performance which set the fashion world on fire. Along with Mughda, Fashion also gave birth to new comer and fellow-model Arjan Bajwa. Playing the subdued lover to priyanka chopra aka Piggy chops, Arjan is the new chocolate boy of Bollywood. Will he prove himself is yet to be seen but what we saw in Fashion sets this newcomer off to a good start…I guess models too can make rocking movie stars and we have veterans like John Abrahim, Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra and a few more Miss India’s who have set the trend for these new comers to follow…

At number 8, I think we need to bring in a smashing surprise: Adyayan Suman

Son of shekhar suman, adhyayan took Bollywood by surprise by his romantic liaison with hot-stuff Kangana Ranaut. Costaring with Kangana in Raaz 2, he portrayed a lover and a villain in a fascinating performance. Pairing up with Prachi Desai in Jashn produced by Mahesh Bhatt, I think its safe to say that Adhyayan has pledged his allegance to the Bhatt camp and maybe this boys future will look as promising as his predecessor, Imran hashmi.

At 7, we are having a Rocking cat fight between Anoushka Sharma and Prachi Desai…

Speaking of Rocking, “Rock On” featured a bunch of new comers and gave a platform to Silver screen goddess Prachi Desai. If anyone could steal the show, it was the women of Rock on. The first wife of Rock on, Prachi underplayed her role and won the critics over with her subtle performance playing a woman of substance _

Anushka Sharma ….

Yash Raj has become the launching pad for many a talent! Anushka Sharma is the lastest to be endorsed by the royal touch of Yash Raj who was launched with none other than SRK in Rab Ne bana Di Jodi. Even though the movie didn’t take off, Anoushka seems to have come a long way from her modeling days and was appreciated by the crtitics and viewers alike. Matching her steps and performance with SRK, she has proved that a launch pad with the King Khan can serve as the best hands-on experience one can wish for in this industry… …

Anoushka seems to be promising and is slated to star in Parmeet Sethi’s upcoming bollyflick so watch out for that

At 6, its Genelia D’souza…and her Jaane Tu Co-Star, Prateek Babbar!

A star in the south and a struggler in Bollywood, Genelia was re-launched in Jaane tu ya Jaane na. Thats right, Playing a teeny bopper and passing off as a new-comer, Genelia is actually NOT a newcomer. She was launched in Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003 with Riteish Deshmukh who is currently her leading man in real life as well… She tried her luck with Ritiesh in Masti which also went unnoticed and the audiences have yet to accept the duo…..Genelia will be seen in Its my Life with Harman Baweja and we hope that the movie works for the both of them. Following that, we will also see her in Life partner produced by Vashu Bhagnani starring Akshay Khanna, Fardeen Khan, Tushar Kapoor, Govinda and another new comer, Prachi Desai..

And just like reel life, Sharing the spotlight with Genelia on our charts is Co-star and the very talented Prateek Babar… Son of veteran actors Raj Babbar and Smita Patil and unlike half-brother Aryan Babbar, this starkid is a new comer with a bright future. Talent may or may not be a genetic gift but Filmfare recognized Pratik’s talent with their stamp of approval. Recieveing his certificate at the awards, Pratik’s happiness and enthusiasm was that of a kid in a candy store

Pratik will be seen in Dhobhi Ghaat produced and directed by Amir Khan’s wife Kiran Rao ……….. And now to our T-O-P F-I-V-E!!

Since we are moving towards the handful (literally) of new royalty on the block, I cant help but think of Farhan Akhtar who is my number 5!

When an established director turns actor, every one takes notice. We are talking about none other than rocking Farhan Akhtar who showed up as an investment banker with a monotonous existence and no interest in life in the smash hit Rock On … who finds his lost love, not in a lady… but in his college rock band.

Farhan performed at filmfare as a singer and went on to dabble in television with his talk-show Hello Friday apart from his directorial ventures and acting adventures. This new comer went on to make Luck by chance which also like his first was made for the metros and appreciated by the metros. Definitely a safe bet for movie makers, this movie maker!!

I will give Sonam Kapoor a 4…

Well… because I am biased…the girl is the best dressed in this industry!! and.. We cant forget that there was one victim of Saawariya – Anil Kapoor’s daughter, Sonam Kapoor. Bearing the scars of a failed movie and a failed relationship with Ranbir, Sonam Kapoor didn’t loose hope. Walking the red carpets worldover, wearing couture gowns by Chanel and stealing a plump endorsement from Ashwarya Rai, Sonam showed shes here to stay by stepping it up and starring with Ashwarya’s very own hubby dear, Abhishek Bachchan in Dilli-6 …

Unfortunately even Dilli 6 was forgotten but this time Sonam has now moved on with Cyrus Sahukar, who she will also be seen with in papa Anil Kapoor’s home production Ayesha, a Jane Austin inspired flick. We will also see this young lady in Come On Papu with none other than Punjabi puttar - Akshay Kumar. Will these work for her, only time will tell…

At 3, we have a ROCK SOLID set of women who won awards and accolades galore! Asin & Shahana Goswami…Talk about women of substance

Southern Belles are famous for making it in Bollywood and this popular starlet of Tollywood seems to have made it in Bollywood over night. Filmfare best new comer of the year, Asin made her debut with our beloved, the Mr perfectionist, Amir Khan in Gajini where she played the same role as she did in the southern version of the huge hit.

She walked away with a powerful performance and the acceptance of Bollywood’s whos who!… Asin will be starring opposite another powerful Khan, salman Khan in London dreams and is now also being linked with the muscle man. She recently moved into her very own posh pad in Mumbai and for a 23 yr old newcomer, Asin is the poster girl for “Nothing succeeds like success”

And who can forget Shahana Goswami from Rock on? Well, she has already proved her mettle by winning the filmfare for the best supporting actress. Shahana has been playing various roles in smaller budget movies but Rock on was her absolute defining moment.

Nandita Daas’s Firaaq sees Shahana in an interesting role (see pic, above right) and she also stars with another newcomer Adhyayan Suman in Jashn.

Topping off at Number 2, it is Ranbir Kapoor

Ever heard of “All roads leading to Rome”?? Well, all roads lead to Bollywood for this new comer who entered with a big bang and a small thud with Sanjay Leela Bansali’s Saawariya. Waltzing off the flop-show unscathed, the grandson of Bollywood Royalty Raj Kapoor, Mr Ranbir Kapoor, showed off raw playboy talent in Bachna Ae Haseeno. …

Karan Johar’s Wake up Sid, Yash Raj’s Rocket Singh and Prakash Jha’s Raaj Niti proves that this new comer is absolutely destined to work with the industry royalty of today. Ranbir proves that he is prince charming in real life with link-ups with the girl-next-door Sonam Kapoor, moving on to the sultry Deepika Padukone and sparking rumors of hitting it off with none other than the sexiest woman in India, Katrina Kaif ….

AND MY NUMERO UNO?? At number 1, its Imran Khan!!!

Even if you have an uncle like Amir Khan, you don’t automatically gain super stardom. Some Bollywood newcomers, like Imran Khan have to pay their dues no matter what. Imran was never pampered by uncle amir on the sets of the super duper hit Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. But he did pick up a trick or two because just like bade miya, our chote miya Imran, is a risk taker! this new comer jumped straight into the villain’s seat in the not so popular Kidnap.

This versatile new comer, Imran Khan will also be seen with sexy siren Katrina Kaif in 7 days in Paris by Sanjay Gadhvi of Kidnap and Dhoom fame. When your director chooses to work with you again, it only proves that you’ve got the goods! Imran Khan is definitely a new comer who can definitely deliver!!
