“Down,” with Lil Wayne, #1 Most Added Track on US Rhythmic Radio
New York, NY—After signing with major recording label Cash Money, R&B singer Jay Sean is back with the first single off his much-anticipated album, due out this fall. “Down,” featuring hip-hop heavyweight Lil Wayne, was the #1 most added record on rhythmic format radio stations across the US this past week. But for Cash Money, one single with Jay wasn’t enough. Cash Money co-founder and CEO Birdman (aka Baby) enlisted Jay to sing the hook on “Written on Her,” which will appear as a radio single on Birdman’s latest album, Always Strapped, due out this summer.
My Own Way, Jay’s sophomore album, took the world by storm in 2007, selling more than 150,000 units with lead single “Ride It” getting more than 10 million views on YouTube. The success of the hit track “Ride It” caught the eye of Cash Money CEO Ronald “Slim” Williams. Williams, seeing Jay’s global mass appeal, signed him with Cash Money for a multi-album, multi-million dollar deal. “We’re real excited about Jay’s project. Cash Money has always been about breaking boundaries and embracing other cultures. Jay’s success within the South Asian demographic will help us break the rest of our artists in that niche while we break Jay in the mainstream here in the US.”
Cash Money Records, founded in 1991 by Birdman and his brother Slim, came from humble beginnings in New Orleans and is now home to 2008’s biggest-selling hip-hop artist, Lil Wayne. The label has lived up to its name, selling more than 25 million records worldwide.
Jay, too, is no stranger to success, with 4 smash singles under his belt; an album that debuted at #1 on the UK R&B charts and #6 on the UK Billboard charts; two Mobo nominations in 2008, and the Song of the Year Award from BMI for penning the smash “Deal With It” for High School Musical Star Corbin Bleu.
Jay has spent the last six years performing in front of sold-out crowds across the globe, from Russia, the US and India to Japan, Dubai and Australia. Look out for Jay to tour this summer at the following:
June 25: Club Plush in Philadelphia, PA
June 26: Fire and Ice in Woodbridge, NJ
July 4: Dubai
