On February 1, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol became the first Indian actors to ring the opening bell of New York City’s NASDAQ stock exchange, the world’s largest stock market. The stars of director Karan Johar’s upcoming feature film MY NAME IS KHAN were surrounded by hundreds of fans in Times Square sharing the historic occasion.
World Business leaders and heads of state are generally invited to do the honors. But this week, it was Bollywood actors Shah Rukh and Kajol who were ringing the opening bell at the Nasdaq Marketsite. Dozens of fans gathered outside the building in Times Square, bearing up against the blustery cold of a New York winter. Shah Rukh and Kajol are busy promoting their upcoming film “My Name is Khan” releasing this valentine’s day weekend.
Incidentally, there are seven Indian companies that trade on the Nasdaq Exchange Platform. What better way to celebrate them, then to have two of India’s premiere actors ringing the opening bell. The stars of ‘My Name Is Khan are promoting their new film all way up to the Feb. 12th release.
