On May 4th 2010 we lost one of the great young Desi comedic talents of our generation.
In 2006, I met a young upstart comic named Harvin Sethi who spoke of glorious achievements, a brave new Hollywood and excelling in the field of Entertainment weeks shy of graduating UCI. Over the the following 3 1/2 years I, as well as many others who knew him watched this young man do what most people talk of doing but don’t have the courage to do.
He pursued his dream of being a comedian with reckless abandon! Along with his partner in crime Pari Mathur, Harvin Sethi dove head first into comedy, producing a number of sketch comedy pieces, staging one man comedy shows across the country and even produced a wildly popular knock off remake of Soulja Boy’s “Crank dat Superman” song, the remake entitled “Crank dat Curry Sauce”
In fact the comedic stylings of Pari and Harvin even earned them a guest spot on E! Entertainment. The young man who created the infectiously hilarious Uncle Ramesh character literally stole everyone’s hearts.
His in your face attitude and comedy, was thoroughly refreshing in a world of people who don’t know how to push the line and dedicate themselves and immerse themselves in comedy, Harvin Sethi knew no such boundaries.
More than anything else, however, Harvin Sethi was a young man who was a gentle soul who used comedy to reach people but was as genuine a person and as raw a comedy talent as one could meet. It shouldn’t matter that now in his passing I can recollect all the wonderful memories he provided me and shared with the world, but it does.
There is no solace to be had in knowing that Harvin Sethi’s greatest achievement was living a life without compromise doing what he was passionate about, and in his wake if people can discover his comedic stylings now posthumously, we should always remember that something being uncompromising in our faith and dedication to our craft, much the way Harvin was to his comedy is a very rare trait that should be celebrated and remembered with great reverence, because in remembering Harvin Sethi we shouldn’t remember his loss but the wonderful gift and brand of comedy he gave us that nobody on this Earth can ever duplicate again.
Harvin Sethi, you will always be remembered.
The Spirited Critic.
P.S. If you enjoy these links of Harvin Sethi’s comedic stylings, please post on your twitter, facebook, and other social network pages so that we can share the gift of Harvin’s immense talent to those who have never seen it before.
