‘I have chosen my man’

She loves the romance genre and all those bubbly girl next door roles. She plays serious roles with a conviction that makes the characters look real. And now she’ll be seen kicking some serious butt. Action might not be Kareena Kapoor’s forte, yet she does look extremely convincing in ‘Agent Vinod’.

“When I signed the film, I was wondering if I’d be able to do the role. I’m so not comfortable with all the car chases, bike chases, firing guns, et al. You can ask Saifu, how much I’ve troubled him during a bike chase sequence. I hope he forgives me for that though,” Kareena says.

Did she have to prepare extensively to get into the character? “No. For this film, I wasn’t required to lose or gain weight. The action that I’ve done is simple, and I guess I’m a fit girl like that. I didn’t need to lose weight for the action sequences,” says Bebo who trimmed to size zero for her film ‘Tashan’.

She is all praise for the film’s director: “‘Agent Vinod’ has turned out to be a wonderful film because of Sriram Raghavan. He is a brilliant director. And seeing the film, I actually felt, I look good doing action.”

We agree, she looks good. Surprisingly though it’s Saif’s item number ‘Pungi’ that has won more admirers than her much touted mujra in the film. “You know, I told Saifu, that people love ‘Pungi’ more, but he kept telling me ‘people like your mujra too’. But I’m very happy. Saif has started this item boy trend. Also, this is the first time people are seeing him in his natural avatar. The audience has seen him romancing his leading ladies and all, but not dancing away to glory, at his humorous best. People like ‘Pungi’ more because they get to see a new side of Saif and actually, this is how he is,” she quips, adding that the song is her favourite of the film’s soundtrack.

Commenting on the character of Agent Vinod she says, “He can handle any situation. He is a very charming man.” What about the man who plays the charming agent on screen? She smiles, “I have always maintained that Saif and Aamir are the best actors we have today in Indian cinema.”

While many of her contemporaries have decided to look beyond Bollywood for their life partners, Kareena doesn’t understand the notion of a ‘non-Bollywood’ man. In fact, she proudly says with a wide smile, “I have chosen my man already.”

She does confess, however, that her Bollywood man doesn’t watch Hindi films and doesn’t necessarily watch all her films. “It’s okay. I don’t want him to watch my films. I know he is proud of my work. The last film he saw was ‘3 Idiots’ but I’m sure he’ll see ‘Heroine,” Bebo says.

Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Heroine’ is expected to be a milestone in Kareena’s career. But for now, she is all geared up for ‘Agent Vinod’ and hopes the film will be well received by the audience. As expected, the topic of marriage is deflected with a quick “Only ‘Agent Vinod’ for now.”
