Bollywood is protesting loudly and angrily on social networking sites over the government’s decision to levy a 12.36% service tax on the earnings of film and TV actors. The tax will be levied from July 1, 2012 on their earnings from acting assignments and endorsements and will be in addition to their income tax obligations. While Priyanka Chopra claimed her heart hurt when signing tax cheques, Farah Khan wondered how much the government would squeeze out of actors. One-film old Ayushman Khurana claimed the government was not considering the short shelf life of actors. Sonam Kapoor dismissed the current government as “corrupt and useless” and Arshad Warsi said the new tax would create more joblessness in the industry.
