Bollywood has always been a place of interest to the rest of the world. But lately, interest is turning into opportunity as more and more actors and models are looking at Hindi films to start a career. Many make the announcement even before the first egg is hatched. However, one particular famous name remains elusive of her debut in Hindi film. Not only has this star granddaughter signed a new Hindi film but also worked in one earlier, without making any news. The starlet in question is Keira Chaplin, the great granddaughter of the legendary Charlie Chaplin.

The actress has acted in ‘Aisha’ and will now be seen in director Rajshree Ojha’s upcoming film ‘Chourahee’ (crossroads). She makes a debut as a foreigner who has an extramarital affair in Kolkata. The film is in English and will be released in the major metro cities of India later this month.

And while the star still remains elusive of her first bollywood appearance, a thrilled Ojha says that it was one of the main highlights of doing her first independent film.

It’s confirmed! Adult star Sunny Leone will be playing the lead role in ‘Jism 2′. This may make certain people jump with joy, and it will also be the first time that a porn star will be making her debut in Bollywood.

Thanks to the reality show ‘Bigg Boss 5′, ace filmmaker and ‘Jism 2′ writer Mahesh Bhatt was able to meet Sunny in person, narrate the story and clinch the deal. Leone is all gung-ho about her official, not to mention daring, Bollywood debut and says, “Yes, I have signed the contract for ‘Jism 2’. It will be my debut in this country as an actor and I am really excited.”

But for those who want to know the reason for the delay, given the bold angle of the film was evident with the poster itself, here’s what woman of the moment, Sunny Leone has to say: “I decided to sign this movie after I heard the story. I think as an actor you should know what you are getting into. You should know, if nothing else, the basics of the story. It was after I had heard the storyline and the details that I agreed to play the character.”

‘Jism 2’ is being produced by Pooja Bhatt and actor turned entrepreneur Dino Morea and will go on the floors shortly. It will be released by August this year.

Hollywood celebrity Oprah Winfrey will be making her first visit to India sometime this month. The one couple who is eagerly waiting for the world famous anchor’s maiden visit is Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan. The celebrity couple plan to throw a special welcome party to celebrate Oprah’s ‘homecoming’ here. And while the venue and guest list is being kept under wraps, it’s certain that the TV & film icon will pay the Bachchan household a special visit to meet the new member of the family.

Says an excited Abhishek, “It would be wonderful to meet her once again. She is here to shoot a documentary film and will be meeting us for a brief moment.” The excitement is quite natural, after all Abhishek first met Oprah on her award winning show in 2009 along with wife Aishwarya (she has been a guest before too in 2007 when she draped a sari for the popular TV hostess). Since then, adds the actor, “I have immense respect for her.” Oprah will also be attending the Literary Festival in Jaipur later this month.

After a worldwide theatrical release by Eros International, New York Emmy-Nominated filmmaker Tirlok Malik’s new film Khushiyaan, in Punjabi language with subtitles, will have a special screening to benefit the Indian American Forum on January 8, 2012. The screening will take place at the School of Visual Arts theater in the heart of Manhattan and the proceeds will support the Indian American Forum’s efforts to have activities for senior citizens.

Within the same week, Khushiyaan has been chosen to be featured in the Punjabi Academy of Delhi Film Festival, which is headed by Rawail Singh. The Academy is run by the government of Delhi, supported by Delhi’s CM, Sheila Dikshit. Malik is extremely honored, because the academy’s main aim is to promote Punjabi cinema and art in Delhi. The festival will screen Khushiyaan less than one week after the New York Screening, from January 13-15.

“I am extremely honored that the film will part of both events,” Malik said. “It is so wonderful to play a small part in helping my communities in New York and Delhi.”
Bilz Music is known for housing and nurturing North America’s most wanted pop group, The Bilz & Kashif, and has earned tremendous success from their signing, with over 13 million video views to date, multiple music awards and headlining close to 50 U.S dates and several international cities on Tour. The new addition, Drega, came after keeping a close eye to artists in North America who have been working on their independent craft. “I’m always looking to work with fresh new artists in the game. The Bilz & Kashif have represented South Asians globally on a pop level, and now I came across an Urban act that has the drive to achieve the same success” states Vishal Urva, Label Manager of Bilz Music.

Mixtape born Toronto native artist, Drega broke into the scene when he featured on The Bilz & Kashif’s hit single “O Meri Rani (Spanish Fly)”, and other street remixes like “Nothing But a Loser”, “This is Why we Hot”, “Candy Girl” and his last album “Man of the Year” that has been gaining traction on its own with over 50,000 downloads to date. “I noticed Drega had what the game was missing. He continuously evolved as an artist by working on his craft with various mixtape releases. I think he has found himself now, and I just couldn’t pass on the opportunity to give him the chance he needs” says Vishal. “He just keeps hustling and that’s what I love in any artist in the game.” Drega mentions: “The thing that made me want to work with Bilz Music is that they are innovators and are able to use their creativity to make history. Look at how much they have changed the scene since when they came out. A lot of acts today owe it to The Bilz & Kashif for taking risks and setting standards.”

Bilz Music plans to release Drega’s brand new album – “Let’s Go Nice” in the first quarter of 2012, and promises a strong note of the current state of hip hop’s fusion right now. In addition, 2 international video singles will be released worldwide once the album release date will be announced. “My goal with signing to Bilz Music is to change the status quo. I want people to question what they think a normal rapper should look, sound, and act like. I want to show people you can’t generalize anyone, especially us young people. We’re all complex. Were all fighting against the old ways of doing things. I’m not concerned with making a bunch of money and retiring, I just want to make history and add to the culture rather than saturate it” voices Drega.

Bilz Music will be partnering with Rogers TV and Phoenix Mobility, to launch a 4 week episode in the New Year for an in-depth view of the making of Drega’s new album, Let’s Go Nice. The TV show will allow fans to become mini mobile moguls and choose Drega’s career move by using their mobile phones! Users will have the options of choosing Drega’s next single, photoshoots and watch exclusive behind the scenes footage all through their mobile phones. Text the word “Drega” to 58888 to watch episodes on your phone or Visit http://www.youtube.com/bilzmusic to watch on-line.

In 1996, Ethan Hunt and his team of highly specialized agents wooed us with their impossible stunts of dare devilry. They repeated the act not once, but twice in 2000 and 2006. And in true ‘milk the franchisee dry’ hollywood tradition…they are back!

As mentioned in the opening sequence of the 1996 Mission: Impossible, should any of the agents get caught or killed, the US government will deny any links and leave them stranded. Well guess what? The inevitable has happened in the fourth installment!

Ghost Protocol has been ordered by the US President, wherein the IMF has been disbanded and its members, disavowed. Left with no team, no resources and no plan, Ethan and his assorted team of Benji Dunn, (Simon Pegg - Ice Age 3, The Adventures of Tintin, Hot Fuzz, Run Fatboy Run), Jane Carter (Paula Patton - Precious, Deja Vu, Mirrors) and William Brandt (Jeremy Renner - The Town, The Hurt Locker) go about saving the world from the hands of a mad Russian scientist Kurt Hendricks (Michael Nyqvist - Mikael from the Millennium series).

Ghost Protocol suffers from the same flaw as its predecessor, MI3 and that is the lack of story and content. Unlike the first 2 films, directed by Brain DePalma and John Woo respectively, the JJ Abrams directed 3rd instalment and this one too, have no concrete story and hence lack the fluidity in the screenplay. So it jumps from one set action piece to another. Each one bigger than the other.

Having said that, I must add that there is much more of an emotional tug in this film than any of its predecessors. Enough of the negatives now!

Let’s face it, nobody expects a heart breaking drama in the MI series anyway. What we do want to see is how far can Agent Hunt push the envelope this time? To those millions of fans, this movie is one hell of a ride!

If the Kremlin explosion sequence gets your pulse racing, then the Burj Khalifa piece will definitely make you jump outta your seat a la Hunt! One word, FANTASTIC. In that entire episode alone, the usage of the background score accentuates the energy and passes it on from Hunt to you.

Brad Bird, known for animated classics like The Incredibles and my favourite, Ratatouille, debuts in his first live action feature film, with Ghost Protocol. Not only does he manage to keep his cartoonish humour alive through Benji (Buck the Weasel in Ice Age 3) but also adds the oomph factor via Patton. But in terms of performances, it is the twice Academy nominated Renner, who steals the show. His rendition of an agent turned analyst, living in remorse and the subsequent confession in Dubai is a treat.

Bird does complete justice to the franchises and well deserves to be the only director in this series to direct 2 movies. Yes, MI:5…will be coming soon. Just hope they manage to bring Ving Rhames back again as an addition to this team.

Josh Holloway, ‘Sawyer’ from the Lost series adds spunk in his cameo as the slain IMF agent. But here in India, the maximum cat calls and whistles can be heard when the multi millionaire Brij Nath (Anil Kapoor) appears on screen. In his cameo, he manages to not only display his comic side, but also exudes class. For all the people that were complaining about him not given his due in the film’s publicity, will now understand why! Kudos to Cruise and Paramount for not going overboard in publicising Anil as the main protagonist in the posters plastered across Mumbai. Anil does a role just like all the other Hollywood actors do and is brilliant in his character.

What didn’t gel was that given the amount of detailing that Bird is known for, he somehow missed some bits & peices here and there. For example, showing the mall in Bangalore as one in Mumbai isn’t a crime, but not removing the Kannada text on the fire exit signs on the door and parking garage IS! Even Also, how come the always alert US government did nothing to ‘protect its skies’ from an incoming nuclear warhead and just let it ‘pop’ into its shores!

Towards the second half, Ghost Protocol does seem a bit too long. And the musical car park sequence could have easily been trimmed by a few minutes.

The film belongs to Tom Cruise, yet again. He lives Hunt every minute and manages to pull off the deadly stunts (many supposedly done by him) brilliantly. His grim reaction to Renner’s countdown while on the Burj or even his charismatic smile at the Pier are prime examples of the star that he is. No one could have delivered the line with such charisma as him ‘ No one will leave this hotel alive’. The film and its larger than life sequences are definitely worth your time and money!

Rating: 8/10 purely for the action thrills

Ace director Mahesh Bhatt has been in and out of the Bigg Boss Home, and yet the one thing that hasn’t been clear is this - Has Sunny Leone been signed for ‘Jism 2′? The answer to this is a disappointing no. Putting an end to all kinds of rumours, the ‘Arth’ director says, “Yes I did speak to Sunny Leone, but nothing has been finalised. We are still on the lookout for the female lead for ‘Jism2’.” Mahesh also denied that Jacqueline Fernandez was ever approached for the film. “Mallika Sherawat and Bipasha Basu were our only options; Jacqueline was never approached.” Probe him further on the film and the female lead and the director in his typical way says, “That’s Pooja’s (Bhatt) call. You should speak to her for this.”

Uday Chopra has announced the formation of YRF Entertainment, a Hollywood-based production and financing company focused on developing and producing feature films for the U.S. and international marketplace. The company is launched and funded by Yash Raj Films, (yashrajfilms.com) the 41-year old studio that was founded by Yash Chopra, and continues to be one of India’s most prolific film producers and distributors. Uday Chopra will serve as CEO of YRF Entertainment and has hired Jonathan Reiman to head development and production under him.

Uday Chopra commented, “My family has a deep commitment to making and distributing quality films that entertain and enlighten audiences. I share that passion, as well as a love for American films that I have had since childhood. It is that enthusiasm and my love of the creative process of filmmaking that drove me to start this new venture.”

YRF Entertainment (yrfentertainment.com) is currently producing and financing “The Longest Week,” which began shooting last week in New York City. Written and directed by Peter Glanz, the movie stars Jason Bateman, Olivia Wilde, and Billy Crudup. Uday Chopra is producing with Neda Armian. Exec Producers are, Jonathan Reiman, Chris Marsh, Stone Douglass, Taylor Materne.

The comedy tells the story of a bratty “man-child” (Bateman) who still lives with his parents in a chic Manhattan hotel but suddenly finds himself evicted, disinherited and hopelessly in love with his best friend’s heartthrob (Wilde).

Uday tracked down the project after the original financier had to abandon the film and immediately fell in love with the material. He quickly arranged a creative and physical production meeting with Glanz and Armian in Mumbai. After the lengthy meeting, he committed to making the movie, with his business and legal team closing the deal in less than two weeks.

YRF Entertainment is also building a slate of projects that it will actively develop and produce from the ground up. The first project the company will develop is an untitled action/comedy by Dan Ewen (“Opposites Attract”) about two twenty-something’s who run away from their podunk towns to pursue big dreams and become an unlikely but seemingly unstoppable duo after meeting serendipitously.
